Empennage :: Vertical Stabilizer
Started VS, drilled skeleton and skin
2 Hours

Today I started the next subassembly of the empennage: the vertical stabilizer! I clecoed the doubler plate to the spar as well as the hinge brackets and then match drilled them. I was a little concerned as the doubler plate was pretty bowed. It seems other people have had this problem but it wasn't too big of a deal once it was clamped to the spar. When it was all together, there was no deformation so I built on. Here's the VS spar all clecoed up.

After getting the rear spar done, I clecoed together the entire VS skeleton and match drilled all the parts.

Next I clecoed on the VS skin and match drilled all of the skin holes to the ones in the skeleton. This VS is going together so quickly and smoothly I almost feel like I know what I am doing. Almost.

At this point, I'd had a pretty successful night so I decided to call it quits before I screwed something up.
