Today I officially started working on the wings! First step is inspecting and marking the spar. It looked good to me... Wasn't sure exactly what I supposed to be looking for but there was no damage on it so that was good. After inspecting, you get to dive immediately into the fuel tank attach nutplates and a few other random nutplates. While they seem pretty simple, there is a ton of work that goes into attaching a nutplate. You have to drill out the two rivet holes, debur them, countersink them, prime the countersink, rivet on the nutplate, then countersink and prime the screw hole. Wash, lather, rinse, repeat. Did I mention there are a lot of nutplates? Well if you were wondering, there are 148 nutplates that have to be attached in this step (74 per wing). This could be a while... Here's a shot of some of the nutplate holes that have been countersunk and primed and are ready for the nutplate to be riveted on underneath. To rivet them, I put a rivet in one of the nutplate holes, held the nutplate on the bottom, and inserted a cleco to hold it all in place. Here I've gotten a few nutplates riveted in and then called it a night.
