Wings :: Tanks
Riveted fuel pickups
1Hour

I'm not actually writing this update until several days after the fact so it will actually encompass the whole week of September 19th. To start out the week, I riveted the fuel pickups to the tank access plates. These got sealed with proseal and the rivets were a tight squeeze to get the bucking bar on them. Fortunately, the slanted face of my tungsten bucking bar had a little corner that just barely fit in there and got the job done.

After the rivets were set, I covered both the manufactured heads and the shop heads with proseal. These should now be good to go.

This was all I did Monday because a bunch of people came over to watch the Monday Night Football game. The next few days, I was waiting on a tube flaring tool so I could proceed with the fuel vent line in the tanks. When it finally got here, I was disappointed with the quality of flare that it produced. I can really only be mad at myself as I went cheap (but not that cheap, it was still $60) and got this kind:

It did bad things to the tube where it grasped the tubing and the flare was pretty terrible and there was no way to get it consistant so I ordered this one from Aircraft Spruce:

It produces a much better and more consistant flare without damaging the tube, this is one of the coolest tools that I own!

Unfortunately, by the time the tool had gotten here, the day had come for me to get my wisdom teeth taken out so I was pretty much worthless and couldn't work on the plane. It did give me some time to read other people's logs and think about how I want to equip the plane some.

Overall a pretty unproductive week as far as the project is concerned but I'm hoping it will pick back up as I start to feel better and get off the drugs next week.
