It was another great day on the project! To start things off, I finished up the inboard skin. I think it turned out pretty well. I then proceeded to cleco on the outboard skin. And then it happened. I had made it over a year into the project but today I finally spilled some rivets. Fortunately for me, the jar was already sitting on the floor so the didn't go very far but it's really hard to pick more than a few of those little devils up at a time. I hope that's it for my rivet spilling on this project... After taking a huge amount of time to do the inboard skin, I decided to find help to do the outboard skin. I recruited my roommate Steve to come out and shoot some rivets. He'd never done any riveting before so I gave a quick crash course using the rivet gun, he tried driving a few practice rivets in a piece of scrap, and then we did the wing. In total it took him about 5 rivets to get over the initial learning curve and then we were in business! We riveted the entire outboard top skin in about 2 hours as where it took me about 4 hours to do the inboard skin solo. Also, the quality is better and more consistent on the outboard skin and I didn't even ding the spar once with the bucking bar! (That happened twice on the inboard skin...) It feels great to finally get to this stage! At this point people usually take the wing off the stand and put it in a cradle. I have two problems with this currently. I don't have a wing cradle because I haven't built it yet, and I think if I take off only one wing, the stand might tip over (or will at least be more wobbly than it already is).
