Wings :: Ailerons
Aileron spar work
2 Hours

After back riveting the stiffeners last night, I needed to bend the aileron skins today. First thing I did was dig out my bending brake from back when I did the elevators and rudder. Upon inspection, the wood had warped terribly so it was now crooked and wobbly - no good to me! I made a quick trip to Home Depot and $3.40 later, I was the proud owner of 8' 2x6 that had been cut in half. I brought it back and switched out the hinges from the old brake and I was good to go.

Here is a completed skin. The bend came out pretty much perfectly!

Then I spent a while searching for the aileron spar doublers. They were hiding inside a small brown paper bag. When I finally found them, I match drilled them using the holes on the spar.

Then I moved on to drilling the attach brackets to #12 for the bolts that attach them. Notice the monster gold clecos working like a champ!

Even with the hiccup with the warped bending brake, it was a productive night and these ailerons are whipping right along. Maybe I can get them finished up this weekend.
