Made it back to the garage today and made some good progress! I started by drilling the bottom skins to the under structure which went pretty quickly. Then it came time to drill the hinge. I hate drilling hinges because they are hard to get lined up and have to be really straight so that the hinge will move freely. Plus, they are pretty thick and not predrilled so it takes a while between the extra drilling required and all the time spent lining it up and making sure it stays lined up. They give you about 1.5' of extra hinge per side. I think it's so there is extra piano wire so that you can bend the extra around and safety tie it to the flap brace to keep it from sliding out. Because the skin gets dimpled for the flush rivets, the spar gets countersunk so that the soft hinges don't get the countersink. The hinge is left on there during the countersinking process so that the pilot has something to go into making a nice countersink. After countersinking the bottom of both spars, I fit the top skin on the flaps and match drilled them. Here they are at the end of the night, completely match-drilled. They look like flaps right now, but this is only temporary. They will have to come apart again before they go back together for good.
