I had a mammoth day working on the plane! I started by riveting the ribs to the skins. I used my swiveling flush set and it worked fantastically. I forgot to put tape on the face of it though for a few rivets. Take a guess at which of the 6 rivets in the picture below wasn't set with tape on the face... In the instructions, Van's says that the flaps are the easiest control surfaces to make. Malarkey! Between having to fabricate those fat brackets and bending the braces and trying to rivet in the tiny space inside the flap, these flaps suck. Here's a look inside the flap. I couldn't even get my hand and a bucking bar inside the flap so I got creative by copying some previous builders and used my squeezer set as a bucking bar. It actually worked really well! And finally, a finished flap! I ran out of MK-319BS rivets so instead on the last rivets I used CS4-4s. They are pretty beefy but will work just fine. The flaps turned out really well and there does not appear to be any twist in them, so I got that going for me, which is nice.
