I had another good day on the project! I finished riveting the bottom skins on the right wing. I had about half of the outboard skin left to do and it went pretty quickly. The last two bays had easy access through the tip of the wing so setting those 100ish rivets was almost a joy. Here's another shot. I think this wing turned out really well! Later, I moved onto the left wing. I could have started riveting the inboard skin but my fingers hurt from bucking and testing all those rivets (since I obviously can't see the shop head, I press on it with my finger tip and the rivet will leave an impression so I can see how big it is and tell if it's been driven enough). Doing a few dozen rivets doesn't hurt but do several hundred in a few days and your fingers will start to get mighty sore. Anyway, I needed to mount the heated pitot control/power box. This was very simple. I mounted it in the bay just outboard of the last inspection panel in the same bay that will hold the pitot tube. To mount it, I simply clamped the box to the rib and match drilled through the holes in the box flanges into the rib. Then I screwed in the four screws I picked up from the Home Depot earlier. Simple, easy, and effective. This is how it looks from the back. This puppy is not going anywhere! The yellow string is the long loop that goes through the conduit so I can easily run wires down it by towing them with the string. After mounting the box, I moved inside and started working on the mounting hole for the pitot mast (the blue thing). The instructions say to mount the mast right next to the rib next to the inspection panel. I chose to move it to the other side of the bay so the rib itself is not blocking access to the pitot tube and also I think the pitot tube/plastic tubing junction will work out a little better/easier with it on the outboard side of the bay. For some reason the ratty old carpet in this place looks really nice in that last picture...
