I made a ton of progress today! I continued riveting on the right wing's bottom skins. When I started the day, I had only done the rivets that are to the left of and above the red line in this picture. In this one, I've done all the rivets except the inboard rib and the double row where the skins overlap. The inboard skin went pretty smoothly with the good access provided by the access panels. I had lots of time left after finishing the inboard skin so I sailed right along to the outboard skin. I did a bit more head scratching as to what pattern I should rivet in so I don't rivet myself into a corner. What I did was start with the double row of rivets. I did all of those and then went along the rear spar. I did all of this solo just by bending the outboard end of the skin up, standing between the skin and the wing, holding the bucking bar on the rear spar rivets with my arm through a lightening hole, and reaching over the skin and driving the gun with my left hand. Typing it out makes it sound complicated but because the rear spar is just below armpit height, everything was actually pretty easy to access. I would go along the rear spar and when I got to a rib, go about halfway down it, then go back to the rear spar and rivet over to the next rib, then go halfway down that one, then go back to the previous rib and rivet all the way to the main spar, back to the rear spar, halfway down the next rib... and so on. I managed to get all the rivets done that are to the left of the red line here. I'm very pleased with how these are turning out. Only one had to be drilled out and only one smiley so far. Not too shabby for about 350 rivets. I should definitely be able to finish up the right wing bottom skins tomorrow!
