Wings :: Wing
Started riveting right bottom inboard skin
2 Hours

Well I'm back at it after a trip to Chicago this past weekend. I finally started riveting the bottom skins after what seems like an eternity of procrastinating. I followed the (very vague) directions. It said to start out shooting the rivets on the rear spar between the wing walk ribs. That went fairly easily. Then it just says to go down the ribs working in an "L" pattern. I did quite a lot of head scratching trying to figure out how to go about this. I settled on shooting the middle two ribs simultaneously working my way forward on each. Here's a shot after I had done the rear spar and the first seven rivets on the middle wing walk ribs.

In an effort to work in an "L", I did about the top five rivets on the 4th wing walk rib, then worked my way across another bay on the rear spar. The rivets along the ribs close to the rear spar were definitely the toughest to get done but long arms and beat up, contorted wrists seemed to be the secret. I then riveted down to the main spar on the wing walk ribs (except the first one because I can squeeze those rivets later). The access was much easier starting about 1/3 the way down the ribs because they could be bucked through the lightening holes.

This is kind of slow going but once you get the hang of it and get the pattern worked out in your head it starts to go pretty quickly. There should be better access now that I am out of the wing walk ribs, which I very much look forward to.
