Wings :: Tanks
Made the tank brackets
3 Hours

All I did today was make those stupid tank brackets! What a TON of work these things take... Here's the finished products. What I used to make them was I cut them out of the original piece of angle with a hack saw. Then I chopped off the corners with the saw to get a very rough 2nd order approximation of the final shape. Then I moved from grinder to saw to Dremel to file and on and on. If you are making your own, skip all those and use either a band saw or a jig saw to cut the curves. I used a jig saw and it did a pretty fine job. After they were cut with the jig saw, I put the pieces back-to-back and filed them down to the same size and shape. They aren't the prettiest things I've ever made but they will definitely work.

Here is the carnage on the workbench after making the brackets.

Then I eyeballed some places to drill the requisite holes. They give a pattern but no specifics on locations. These looked good to me.

And here they are both drilled but only with a #40. I will enlarge them with a #30 when I drill the rib and back side piece.

At this point I called it a night because I was tired of looking at and working with those damn brackets.
