It's been several days since I last worked on the project because I went to Nashville for the long weekend! I picked up right where I left off last by continuing to work on the tank reinforcement brackets. I drilled the small backside doubler piece to the inboard bracket on both sides as well as drilled the one for the outboard ribs. Here they are all drilled up. ![]() After that, I moved onto to making my capacitive fuel senders. I match drilled the plates to the specified ribs. ![]() Once those were drilled I clecoed them to the rib, the rib to the tank, and the stiffeners to the tank to see where the plates were too close to the stiffeners (min distance is 3/16"). I marked out roughly 1/4" around the stiffeners just to be safe. ![]() I cut the offending area of the plates out and then drilled the plates for the nutplates. After some double checking to be sure I was putting them on the correct side of the plate, I dimpled the nutplates and the capacitive sender plates and then riveted on the nutplates. ![]() After doing the fuel senders I became very unproductive. I got out the fly-cutter and fired up the drill press to cut these giant holes on the inboard fuel tank ribs. This is by far the scariest tool I have used but I managed to make the holes quite nicely despite hiding behind my toolbox while doing it (I had horrible visions of the cutter flying off and impaling me or breaking a shin bone so I went to battle using the tool box as body armor...) ![]() Earlier today I ordered some fuel tank sealant, the tank tester kit, and the pre-made fuel pickups from Van's so those should be here around Friday or Monday. Also, in the midst of my unproductiveness, I cut out the anti-rotation brackets and ordered some 5/32" and 3/16" clecos (black and gold colored) so I could do the fuel tank access panel drilling. I closed out the night by staring at my fuel caps trying to figure out how they get attached. They are slightly contoured but I was having a very difficult time seeing the mid-point of the contours so maybe on another day after some sleep it will be clear to me which way they go on.
