Empennage :: Trim Tab
Made and installed riblets
2 Hours

After over a month of not doing anything on the project besides thinking about it (the panel, the engine/prop, ordering the wings, where to build the wings, how to pay for the wings), I got my act together and did some work! I made the three riblets (two for the trim tab, one for the elevator) and installed them. It took some careful bending with the hand seamers and trimming with the snips but I got a pretty great fit for these guys without too much hassle. You'll notice I didn't use flush rivets because 1) I didn't have enough and 2) I couldn't get any dimpling tool in there so it was a moot point anyway. I'm not worried about the rivet heads because they're still very low to the surface (sit about 1/16" above the surface). This won't cause any drag penalties because they are so far back on the elevator that the flow is long since turbulent.

Here's a picture of the gap between the elevator and the trim tab with the riblets installed.

Here's the outboard edge of the trim tab.

And the elevator riblet.

And finally the inboard trim tab riblet. I think I might call this trim tab DONE!
