Good long day on the project today! It was all about the wing tie down brackets. Started the day by cutting some aluminum bar into 4 pieces. Used a plain old hack saw so it took a little time but not bad. These will become spacers which fit between the spar and the actual tie down bracket. After those were cut, it came time to put the 1 inch hole in the middle. I think this is for weight savings and it better be worth it because this was a huge pain. It took about two hours using various combinations of step drills and Dremel tools to get this done but I did finally get it taken care of. Once those were cut and lightened, I match drilled the tie-down brackets and the spacers to the spars. The bolts aren't attached to anything, they are simply there to keep the holes lined up. Then the assembly came off the spar and the spacers and brackets got fitted for some nutplates. Fun stuff... Fortunately there were not many and it went well. Here is the result at the end of the night. Everything got deburred, primed, and the spacers, nutplates and brackets were riveted together. Again the bolts aren't screwed into anything but this is what it will look like when it's flying. The only thing left to do is to tap the bottom of the bracket to accept the 3/8-16 screw. Tomorrow's work session should make quick work of that.
