I started out today by finishing up the dimpling of the tank skins. Just when I got into an efficient rhythm of dimpling with the C-frame I finished but at least I will be efficient from the start on the next skins I dimple. After I did that, I spent some time looking up specifics on the fuel return line that is necessary if you use an ECI engine. Of course I got sidetracked and ended up looking at other people's build logs for a while too... When I got back to work, I drilled the holes in the inboard tank ribs for the BNC connector, the tank vent, and the fuel return line. Here you can see the fuel return line towards the leading edge, the vent line in the middle, and the BNC connector hole aft. The vent and drain lines are drilled to 7/16" and the BNC connector hole is drilled to 3/8". ![]() Next I slightly modified the tank vent grommets by notching them out a little bit. Because I am using the capacitive fuel level units, they require a wire to be attached to both plates. The wire to the outboard plate just gets run along with the tank vent tube and the grommet needs a little more room in it to allow this so I got out the Dremel and made quick work of it. ![]() I wanted to do more work tonight but the next thing is to drill the fuel pickup tube and then start sealing the tanks but neither the pickups or sealant has come in from Van's yet so I called it an early night and came inside to read up on the next steps on the leading edge in case the stuff doesn't arrive tomorrow so I will have something to do after soccer practice.
